Michele is smiling and jumping up and down again. This can only mean one thing. She checked the mail….and found a letter from US Immigration. Hurray!! We have our I-800 approval for both Quinn and Jenna and one more BIG check mark to add to the list.
Our I-800 application was delivered to the USCIS on April 9th. So that means we got our approval back in just under 3 weeks. 3 weeks is fairly quick to get a response back. So this is definitely a good thing. The next step is applying for our girls’ visa paperwork. That usually takes less than 2 weeks. Then we move onto getting our Article 5. The Article 5 letter is a statement issued by the US Consulate in Guangzhou, China after they review our paperwork and visas. This letter states that everything is all in order and the adoption is good to go. The final step is the actual Travel Approval, where the Chinese adoption authorities give the final go ahead that all the paperwork is in order on their side and we are cleared to fly to China.
During this entire process it has always seemed like travel was still a very, very long way off. It seemed that it wouldn’t be until some distant future time, many long months and years away, that I would actually get to meet my two new daughters. However, we now have a small chance of being ready to fly to China at the end of June, with a very strong chance of being in China during July. The potential travel window is finally starting to shrink and it finally feels like this journey may actually have an end after all. I can’t wait!!
