Wisconsin Dells

by Ted

Some people think having a mother-in-law is a bad thing.  But I know better.  Especially, when she manages to get the family together for our annual weekend trip to the water park.  Luke and Ryan love the water and have been begging to go back every year with Auntie Mary and Uncle Eric.  This time Eric and Mary got to bring their new baby, Jax, along for the first time.  Jax didn’t go down too many slides and didn’t care too much for the water, but he was fascinated with all the people and kids.

Luke and Ryan had a blast as always.  Even before we arrived at the water park, Luke was telling us that he wanted to go down the purple, the orange, and the green slides.  He has an incredible memory when it comes to remembering his favorite water slides from an entire year ago.  However, he never quite seems to remember that he is supposed to be nice to his little brother.  Hmmmm…..

Ryan is not quite as adventurous as Luke, so he was quite content playing with the water toys and squirt guns at first.  However, he did eventually build up enough courage to follow Luke down some of the kiddie slides.  However, when it came to going down the big adult tube slides with mommy and daddy he had no problem what-so-ever!!

At the end of the weekend, Michele and I left our kids with Grandma and headed off for the Hurricane.  It ended up being a much, much longer wait than we had expected.  Michele started getting scared about half way through the wait.  She claimed she was getting “worried about leaving the kids with Grandma for so long.”  Eventually, we made it to the front of the line.  The fog was pouring out of the slide with green, yellow, and blue strobe lights setting the scene.  We could hear the echos of the screams of each group as they went speeding down the tube.  Michele got more and more nervous as we got closer and closer.  Eventually, it was our turn.  Michele was silent as she sat down in the tube.  Finally, the lifeguard sent us on our way.  We went flying down the tube – Michele forwards, me backwards.  We came shooting out into a huge bowl (like a snowboard halfpipe) and went zooming back and forth from one side to the next.  At the end, after 2 minutes of sheer terror and white knuckles, Michele calming climbed out of the tube and says, “That wasn’t so bad.”

Thanks, Janett.
