By Doris (aka Grandma Yoder)
Sunday is always the day to go to church at our house. The boys definitely did NOT want to attend Jr. Church for the kids or go to the Nursery if I was not there, so we chose a back row seat and they looked at books, colored on paper, ate Apple Jacks and wiggled (but stayed quiet). After church we went to Hibbing for lunch to Luke’s favorite eating place: MCDONALDS. They both ate their lunches really well, I guess their breakfast was long ago digested and the Apple Jacks in church apparently did not spoil their appetites.
Knowing we were going mess up Ryan’s naptime a little, we chose to go to Bennett Park for a half hour before leaving Hibbing. The children’s playground is really nice at this park and both boys ran and played for 40 minutes nonstop till they were all hot and tired. Luke was especially playing the role of the kind big brother helping Ryan get around and up and down on things. Mostly, Ryan didn’t need help but on a big slide he did chicken out by himself. We watched Luke head back up the slide and then they both came down together, Ryan tucked in front of Luke, looking all safe and sound. I wished I had had my camera along, but all that was at home, including our smart phones. We forgot everything when we headed to church.
The ride home from Hibbing is about 40 minutes, so we put on their Go Fish music CD and it was fun to listen to them sing along from the back seat. Ryan literally did sing himself to sleep with that when we were about 10 minutes from home…..not good timing at all! Jason tried to carry him down to his bed and it looked like he was staying asleep, but then when he was all snuggled down he stirred himself awake and could not go to sleep again. He sang and wiggled around for 40 minutes and so I decided I might as well let him get up. End of nap for Ryan!!! In the meantime, I did get Luke to lay down for a nap as well. He INSISTED he was not tired and was quite annoyed with me. But he was asleep within 5 minutes. So the table is turned around tonight at bedtime, with a very tired Ryan, and a wide-awake Luke. Oh well, life goes on and if that is the only upset, than it has been a very good day.
After naps we had some popcorn and juice for a snack on the back deck and then we did our usual family swim time and had a grand time again in the lake. Finally, a shivering little Ryan says, “Namma, I’m t’old.” The rest of were definitely cooled off as well, it was supper time and we were all ready to come in.
The evening was spent playing around the house, building things with Knex, playing with toys and bumbling around the house. All in all, it was quiet and a “boringly content” day.
PS: Luke has taken the initiative to count days on the calendar…he has figured out when Mom and Dad will be home again!
Note to Grandpa Jason: Don’t read this to Luke! (However, when I made the calendar, I did mark the HOME AGAIN day as Saturday, just so it would not be disappointing to them in any way should we choose not to be there on Thursday night when Mom and Dad actually arrive home. He will be pleased if it turns out to be on Friday or even sooner!)
