Surgery Update #4

by Ted-

The girls are both doing well.  Jenna is still sleeping in  my arms.  She was just up a little while ago for about 15 minutes.  She was content in my arms without crying – this is definite improvement. Jenna hasn’t really started eating or drinking much yet.  So far she has managed to swallow about an ounce of milk, but nothing more.   In the meantime her IV is keeping her hydrated.

Quinn is about 3-4 hours behind Jenna in her recovery.  She is still very cranky whenever she is awake.  She usually sleeps for 10 to 15 minutes then is awake for about 5 minutes before zonking back out again.  So far she hasn’t had anything to eat or drink, but we’ve only tried once so far.

On the plus side both girls have their “No-nos” off for the moment.  These are braces that keep their elbows straight.  The goal is to keep the girls from grabbing or picking at their mouths.  For the moment anyways they are keeping their hands away from their mouths, so they don’t have to deal with that frustration.  I’m guessing as they start being awake more the “No-nos” will have to go back on.

Michele’s dad Roger came up to the hospital this afternoon.  So currently, he has Quinn, and Michele is taking a break over at the Ronald McDonald House.  They gave us a room (like a hotel room) for the night.  So Michele is taking a couple hour nap before Roger heads back home for the night.  They have a fully stocked kitchen with dishes, food, and a pantry that families can use as they like.  They also have a dining room, entertainment room, and several bedrooms available for parents or family members that need them.  It is just two hallways down so it is super convenient and such a blessing to have that available and so close.  I am really impressed with what the Ronald McDonald program offers.  I didn’t know what they did until we showed up here.

We definitely covet your prayers for the night and the next couple of days ahead.  The girls are just beginning their recovery and have a long hard road ahead of them.  Thanks everyone for all your prayers already.  And thank you God for hearing our prayers and protecting Quinn and Jenna through their surgeries and helping the surgeries go so smoothly.

About tochinaandbackagain

I am a stay at home mom to two very active boys and soon we will bring home two Chinese twin girls with cleft lip and palate issues. I spend my day trying to be the best parent and wife I can be with God leading the way.
