The local marathon

by Michele

Yesterday the boys and I set out to do a marathon….of 2 miles.  Our next door neighbor Bella was raising money for her school and she needed some teammates to walk with her.   I brought a stroller for Ryan thinking that 2 miles for a 3 year old might be a bit much.  So we set out on our walk, Elliott pushing Ryan, Matt with Luke on his shoulders, Bella and me on our own.  It was an awesome afternoon to be out on a walk.  There were tons of people (I think they said there was around 500 people registered but I don’t think everyone showed up).  It was a lot of fun walking, talking to people that we haven’t seen for a while, and just enjoying life in a small town.  I am not sure if Luke is still adjusting to kindergarten or just doesn’t like being the older brother who always has to walk but after a bit of walking on his own, he wanted his turn in the stroller.  So we let Ryan out and away we went.

Our 2 mile walk turned into at least a 1 mile run.  He was the out of control, running and jumping off the curbs, in and out of ditches.  Ryan had a blast.  We were all huffing and puffing a bit to keep up with Ryan’s burst of sprints in and out of people.  I think Elliott had it the worst because he had to push Luke, whose legs were dragging on the ground, around people and make sure he didn’t hit anyone with the stroller.

We got Ryan to stop at a cross walk to pose with one of their friends.  I did have to hold onto Ryan.

We finally made it to the finish line.  We were towards the end so everyone who finished before us was just sitting around.  It was a great day.  Thanks Bella for asking us to be on your team.

About tochinaandbackagain

I am a stay at home mom to two very active boys and soon we will bring home two Chinese twin girls with cleft lip and palate issues. I spend my day trying to be the best parent and wife I can be with God leading the way.
