Post-op check-up

by Michele

Our internet has been sketchy for the last couple of days so we will see if this post goes through.  We had our post-op check-up for the girls yesterday.  Everything looks good.  They are able to eat soft foods again.  We do appreciate and want to thank everyone who made us soup, pureed it and froze it for our girls.  It made the 2 week liquid diet really easy on all of us.  But to celebrate the end of the liquid diet for the girls, I made the girls favorite, carrots and potatoes cooked in meat juice.  They squealed in delight when they realized they were not going to have pureed food.  Ted and I felt bad so we even gave them a bit of the meat which they devoured.

We started talking about their next surgery.  Right now it is set for sometime in January or February.  The doctor explained the next procedure.  It sounds a bit crazy what they do to fix the lip.  There was a lot of cutting, slicing, reattaching, stretching, pulling, flipping things inside of the mouth.  At the end of it, the Doctor said that they would look a bit like Bugs bunny (very tight, squinty mouth/nose) for about 6 months until all of the skin starts growing and getting back to normal.  Some kids skin will actually produce too much skin so they have to go back in and remove some of it a few months later.  We will see what our girls do.
