The nest

by Michele

Before we went to China to pick up our girls, Ted and I talked a lot about what to expect when we brought the girls home.  One of the things we mentioned was that the girls would have really short hair.  I don’t know if it was me being naive or what but I told people it was because it was easier to check short hair for lice and such.  I am sure it is easier to watch for things like that and maybe that is one of the reasons kids out of orphanages have short hair but I don’t think it is the main reason anymore.  Ever since we have brought the girls home we have awoken to this

Now normally these girls have soft silky straight hair.  And I mean straight hair but every morning and after nap, yes 2 times a day it is in tangles.  Maybe I am spoiled with boys and maybe all girls hair does this (seriously, I am wondering if this is normal) but I am beginning to think that most girls coming out of the orphanage or a busy foster care house has short hair because it take me over 5 minutes to get through all the hair.  Could you imagine if there were 100 girls in your care and you had this in everyone’s hair…

That is ok though, I enjoy those 5 minutes when I get to snuggle with my girls attempting to selvage their hair.  You know why, because they are in my arms. Because they had a mommy willing to step up and adopt them, to love them and get their tangles out.  Next month is adoption month.  Think about it.  Open your heart and see if you have the courage to step up and adopt a loved one that needs a home.

Have you tried using detangler spray? It does help to get through tangles like that without the comb pulling so hard on the hair. I have some that we don’t use if you want to try it.

Is it from sweating? Our girls both occasionally wake up in the summer with sweaty heads which makes for some truly nasty hair!
