Last piece of adoption paperwork

by Michele

Today in the mail we got our last piece of adoption paperwork, the girls’ birth certificates.

We have Chinese birth/finding certificates in Mandarin and English but I guess most places in the US will not take those so we were told to get them American birth certificates.   So 19 months since we started our paperwork journey, our part is done, well sort of..besides the post-placement reports which our social worker does for the next 5 years.

On a side note, our sleep issues have gotten better in a way.  I think since the surgery, Quinn has pretty much slept the night through.  She has the occasional 2-5 mins of crying every now and then but nothing bad.  Before the surgery, when she cried in the middle of the night, we would give her Tylenol.   It always seemed to help.  I think she probably had a lot of ear pain from all of the liquid in her ears.

Jenna on the other hand has not improved.  She still cries a lot, like over 2 hours last night.  Last night,we started making her go downstairs if she cries.  She ended up there 4 times last night. We have used this approach before when we first tried to get the girls to stop crying and when it was keeping everyone awake.  We stopped because we didn’t think the girls understood why they were going down there, I don’t think they understood enough English at the time.  But Jenna understands much more now so we will see if this approach improves the situation.  At least tonight she went to sleep without a peep and that hasn’t happen in a long time.  All I had to say was Jenna cries, Jenna goes downstairs.  She shook her head no really fast so here is wishing us some luck.

Can you tell what we played today after school?  The girls had a tendency to pick up the marbles and throw them.  This didn’t make Ryan very happy.  He was determined to play the game the right way.  Hang in there Ryan….the girls will learn with time.
