Every year a few houses on our street tend to go all out with their Christmas lights. When we come home at night it is fun to turn onto our street and see it all lit up. Over the years, we have tried to join in by decorating our house too. Some years have turned out better than others.
This afternoon, the weather was beautiful, so the kids and I found our way over to the park across the street. Our play eventually migrated into Jayden’s yard where his dad was busy lighting up the playhouse in their backyard. Jayden’s dad, Dave Mann, (the same person who built our deck), built the cutest little playhouse for his kids. It comes complete with a tiny door, many windows, two dormers, a slide, a sandbox and electricity. So for Christmas it is only fitting that it gets decked out with lights too!!
However, I’ve found it can be easy to get caught up into the decorations, the lights, the presents, the busyness, and all the hype. However, it never hurts to stop for a second, and remember why we celebrate. The Creator of all came to join us
…to teach us
…to love us
…to die for us.
Tonight, I pointed my camera up towards the sky and wondered what the shepards must have felt when they saw all the angels and how the magi must have felt when they finally found Jesus. It must have been truly awesome.
My prayer this year is that while I’m busy enjoying all the lights I can still remember the real reason we celebrate.
