Our shy little boy

by Michele

Ryan was suppose to have a Christmas program at preschool before Christmas break; however, it happened to snow that day and school was canceled.  They rescheduled for after the break.  I didn’t know how Ryan would take it because he is very shy.  I mean really really shy.  He has a hard time being handed off at preschool as it is, but after a break it is very hard.  I could not imagine Ryan, who didn’t have school for 2 weeks, go back to school and walk up on stage to sing songs in front of people.  Granted the teachers say that Ryan is a very good singer and a very animated dancer but that is in a normal setting without an audience.

Well, last week when school started up again, we went to Ryan’s preschool concert.  I told Ted I would be happy if Ryan made it up on the stage and possibly manage a smile.  Ted thought Ryan would get over it, the power of music is just too much for him that he would be able to sing towards the end of the concert.  Anyone want to take a bet what happened…..

Well, he entered the sanctuary, saw all of the parents and fell to the ground.  His teacher had to lead/pull him in the rest of the way.

He sat by his favorite teacher (actually the teacher’s helper) the whole program as she helped direct the other students.  I tried to bribe him into getting on the stage with candy but he gave me this sad, sad face saying he was way too tired to stand.  His teacher was trying her hardest not to laugh at his facial expressions because that only makes Ryan more dramatic.  Ryan is a very good actor and to his credit, his facial expressions are just hilarious.   In the picture below we asked him to wash his hands for supper but he threw himself on the sofa and but on his “I am sad” face.  It is not nearly as good as his very sad face but it was still pretty dramatic.

Well, he never made it on to the stage at his concert because he was too tired (so he says); however, he went bouncing down the stairs for cookies and juice afterwards.  He also sang two of his songs at the top of his lungs in the car for Grandpa.  Oh well, maybe in a year or two he will get over his shyness and be able to get on stage to entertain everyone.  But right now Ryan’s talent is stuck on home video which cracks us up.

That sounds so similar to Greta. Although she has at least progressed to going up on stage. Still no public singing or speaking though…

  2. Aw yes; this was a familiar scenario this summer here at our house…whenever he was uncomfortable with a situation! Funny boy!
