We have already had the girls home for over 6 months which seems crazy. I was talking to my mom a while ago and realized that we had not had a dedication ceremony for our girls yet. We had one for our boys a few months after they each were born but since our girls were born half way around the world and we didn’t get them until they were 21 months old, it just hadn’t happened yet. Well, until last Sunday. Ted’s family came down on Saturday to hang out, opened some Christmas present, and swim at a hotel. Then on Sunday we dedicated our girls to the Lord. Jenna slept in my dad’s arms the whole time.
Some of you might be wondering what does it mean to be dedicated to the Lord. Well, it is where the parents publicly commit to raising their child in a Christian home guided by God and His Word.
Impress them (God’s commands) on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Deuteronomy 6:7
Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it. Proverbs 22:6
The idea is that we as parents lay the ground work for our children so that when they are old enough to understand salvation through Jesus Christ, they can choose salvation on their own for themselves. When they are older, we hope that our children will choose to believe in Jesus, accept His forgiveness, be baptized and be adopted into God’s loving family.
